T-Pain sues Konvict Entertainment over $489,000 royalty dispute

Rapper and singer T-Pain has filed a lawsuit in Fulton County Superior Court against Konvict Entertainment, the label co-founded by Akon, alleging unpaid royalties totaling $489,047.

The dispute involves a $1.3 million royalty payment received by Konvict from distributor Zomba Recordings in March 2026 for sales generated during the second half of 2025. T-Pain, whose recording agreement from 2005 entitles him to 75 percent of net royalties, claims he received only about half of his due share. He alleges that a portion of the funds was transferred to BuVision, an affiliate label managed by Akon’s brother, Abou “Bu” Thiam.

This marks the second major legal battle between T-Pain and the label. A previous lawsuit filed in 2018 regarding the album ‘Oblivion’ resulted in a 2025 settlement. T-Pain alleges that Konvict Entertainment has breached both the original 2005 agreement and the terms of that recent settlement. The singer is seeking the outstanding balance, along with prejudgment interest and legal fees.
