T-Systems improves data center efficiency in Spain

T-Systems, a digital services division of Deutsche Telekom, has improved the energy efficiency of its data center in Cerdanyola del Vallés, Spain. The facility achieved a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35 in the first quarter of 2026.

PUE measures the ratio of total energy consumed by a data center to the energy delivered to computing equipment. A PUE of 1.0 represents theoretical perfection. The achieved 1.35 rating is notably lower than the European average of approximately 1.58.

The company also reported a reduction in Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE), dropping from an average of 0.0430 L/kWh in 2025 to 0.0143 L/kWh in 2026. These improvements aim to address the rising energy demands driven by cloud services and artificial intelligence expansion.
