Tabarca Island Draws German Tourists as NRW Police Aid Mediterranean Travel

Tabarca Island, a tiny Spanish Mediterranean isle off the coast of Alicante, has been highlighted as a quiet alternative to crowded resorts such as Mallorca and Ibiza. Covering less than half a square kilometre and home to about 50 residents, the island offers crystal‑clear waters, a historic fortified town dating back to the 18th‑century settlement by Genoese fishermen, and a marine‑protected area popular with snorkelers and divers.

At the same time, German police from North Rhine‑Westphalia have deployed 32 officers to several popular holiday destinations in Spain, France and Bulgaria. Their presence in places like Mallorca, Nice, Paris and the Bulgarian Goldstrand is intended to assist German tourists with language barriers, lost documents and other emergencies, rather than to enforce local regulations. The dual focus underscores both the search for less‑touristy spots and the effort to ensure safety for German travellers across the Mediterranean region.
