Tabasco government plans 2027 budget and legal reforms

The government of Tabasco is preparing its 2027 budget and legislative reforms. Governor Javier May Rodríguez announced that the 2027 Expenditure Budget will prioritize social programs and public works while maintaining an austerity policy and avoiding new public debt. The preliminary budget is estimated at approximately 70 billion pesos, representing a 5 percent increase over 2026 due to higher federal participation and local tax collection efficiency.

Key spending areas include support for seniors, people with disabilities, youth, and agricultural producers, alongside student scholarships. Infrastructure priorities involve rehabilitating rural roads, constructing treatment plants, expanding water and drainage networks, and maintaining health centers. The plan also includes the second stage of the Villahermosa road distributor and highway modernization in the Chontalpa and Los Ríos regions.

Simultaneously, the administration is working on reforms to the State Penal and Civil Codes to increase penalties for criminal activity and strengthen justice procurement tools. The Governor also indicated that the Revenue Law is being developed to incorporate greater fiscal incentives.
