Tabasco Governor Javier May Criticized for First‑Class Flight Amid State Crisis

Governor Javier May of Tabasco was confronted on an Aeroméxico Premier‑class flight from Mexico City to Villahermosa by former gubernatorial candidate Lorena Beaurregard. Beaurregard recorded the exchange and posted it on X, accusing May of hypocrisy for traveling in first class while the state faces economic hardship, high unemployment and insecurity. She cited Morena’s austerity rhetoric and called the governor a “hypocrite.”

May responded that the seat was a promotion and later called his opponents “hypocrites.” The altercation ended when a flight attendant intervened. The flight’s premium seat could cost up to 9,000 pesos. The incident occurred after May returned from a meeting in Mexico City with Bancomext director Carlos Torres Rosas.

The video sparked criticism on social media, highlighting tensions over political leaders’ use of public funds and the contrast between austerity promises and personal conduct.
