Tabaski Ngom detained after assault on pregnant detainee
An incident of violence occurred at the Special Pavilion of the Maison d’arrêt et de correction involving two inmates. On August 30, 2026, Tabaski Ngom, a Treasury Inspector currently incarcerated, allegedly assaulted her cellmate, 21-year-old A. Diatta, who is eight months pregnant.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from an administrative decision to transfer the pregnant detainee from their shared room for security reasons. According to prison administration reports, Ngom opposed the move and threatened the other inmate. The situation escalated when Ngom allegedly threw the pregnant woman to the ground and struck her several times. The victim was urgently evacuated to the Hôpital principal de Dakar for medical care.
Following the incident, the prison director formally notified the prosecutor. On September 2, 2026, the Plateau district commissioner, acting on instructions from the prosecutor, transferred Tabaski Ngom to the Grand-Yoff district police station after notifying her of her rights.
