Tabata Amaral criticizes electoral fund and parliamentary amendments

Brazilian Federal Deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB) has criticized the scale of the electoral fund, describing it as a “slap in the face” to society. During a recent interview, she expressed concern regarding the R$5 billion projected for the 2026 elections and highlighted a more significant issue: the use of parliamentary amendments. Amaral alleged that these funds, totaling approximately R$50 billion, are being diverted from essential sectors like health, education, and security, and claimed that some lawmakers use these resources to irregularly finance political campaigns or are linked to organized crime.

In addition to her stance on budget allocations, Amaral addressed public security, stating her support for lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 16 for serious and violent crimes, such as rape, while opposing measures that would affect younger children or minor offenses.

Political analysis also highlights the tension between Amaral’s self-identification as center-left and her legislative record and financial backing. She has received significant donations from financial market figures, including Armínio Fraga, and has previously voted in favor of the 2019 Social Security Reform and the 2021 privatization of the Correios, positions often associated with neoliberalism.
