Tablelands Property Crime Unit issues over 1,000 charges

The Tablelands Property Crime Unit has charged 279 individuals with 1,006 offences since its establishment in February. Comprising plainclothes and General Duties officers, the unit focuses on high-risk property offenders in Atherton, Mareeba, and the broader Tablelands region.

During recent operations on 20 October, officers executed search warrants at two locations, recovering a stolen .22 rifle, a stolen double-barrel shotgun, ammunition, and stolen or cancelled number plates. Police also discovered three unlicensed carpet pythons. A 46-year-old man faces multiple charges, including possession of tainted property and unlawful possession of a category A weapon, and is scheduled to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on 23 November.

Detective Acting Inspector Tony Law reported that the unit has recovered nearly $500,000 worth of stolen property during its first eight months of operation.
