Tabor City checkpoint leads to at least 10 detentions

At least 10 people were reportedly detained during a license checkpoint in Tabor City, North Carolina, on the afternoon of Thursday, September 24. The operation, located near the intersection of N.C. Highway 904 and Pireway Road in Columbus County, involved the Columbus County Sheriff's Office and plainclothes officers.

According to reports from the organization Siembra NC, witnesses and family members stated that Latino drivers and passengers were interrogated regarding their places of birth and immigration status. One witness, electrician Javier Carbajal, reported that after presenting his license, he was ordered out of his vehicle and searched, while a passenger was subsequently arrested after being unable to produce immigration documents.

Witnesses observed several individuals being detained with their hands secured by plastic zip ties. As of the following morning, several families were still seeking information regarding the whereabouts of their detained relatives.
