Tabriz prison relocation prioritized by East Azerbaijan officials
The Governor of East Azerbaijan, Bahram Sarmast, has identified the relocation of the Tabriz prison to a location outside the city limits as a top provincial management priority. During a meeting with the head of the National Prisons Organization, Sarmast emphasized that the move is necessary due to geographical constraints and urban planning considerations.
The head of the National Prisons Organization noted that the project has been underway since 2012. The first phase is currently 50% complete, which is reportedly ahead of similar projects in other major cities. Once this phase is operational, the relocation of the prison can proceed. Officials aim to have the new Tabriz prison operational within the next year.
In addition to the prison project, provincial leadership is focusing on neighborhood-based governance to improve youth welfare, health, and social vitality. This initiative seeks to utilize local institutions such as schools, mosques, and health networks to support the development and well-being of the region's younger population.
