Tacna Mayor and Congress Members Clash Over Market Project
A confrontation occurred in Tacna between Mayor Pascual Güisa Bravo and members of Congress, including Guisella Ticona, Svieta Fernández, and Juan Cabrera, during a fiscalization visit. The legislators sought answers regarding Comptroller General observations concerning a project to build a wholesale and retail market on the former Fundo Chololo land.
The Comptroller has reportedly observed the approval of the project's contract versions, citing a failure to reach the required majority vote. Additionally, a land reversion process for the site was initiated by former governor Liliana Velazco. During the meeting, Mayor Güisa Bravo questioned the representativeness of the congress members, leading the legislators to end the session and announce they would summon the mayor through congressional commissions.
Separately, merchants from the Mercado Grau have announced a mobilization toward the Tacna Provincial Municipality, the Judiciary, and the Public Ministry. The group is protesting the lack of response to legal actions intended to prevent the handover of the Fundo Chololo land. Representative Álex Quinto expressed concern that the mayor may sign the contract for the property despite pending urgent requests for precautionary measures and alleged irregularities in the municipal council's voting process.
