Tacna Regional Council reports unpaid salaries for staff since May

Miguel Sierra, chief executive of the Regional Council of Tacna, said that a number of council employees have not received their wages since May. He noted that about eight workers are still owed May salaries, and that between 15 and 20 staff members, including advisers and technical personnel, remain unpaid for June and July. Sierra added that similar payroll delays affect other areas of the Tacna regional government.

The council also reported procedural problems, such as the suspension of sessions because of a lack of quorum, which has delayed discussion of infrastructure projects and other regional initiatives. Sierra said the council is pressing the regional executive for information and expects a decision on pending matters within the coming week.
