Tacna regional election runoff set between Mario Ruiz and Walter Anchapuri

The electoral count for the 2026 regional and municipal elections in Tacna, Peru, has concluded with 100% of the 1,034 ballots tallied. Because the leading candidate, Mario Ruiz Rubio of the Alianza Para el Progreso party, received 29.337% of the vote, he failed to reach the 30% threshold required to secure a victory in the first round.

As a result, a second-round runoff has been confirmed between Ruiz and the second-place candidate, Walter Anchapuri Zapata of the Ahora Nación party, who obtained 17.610% of the votes. The runoff is scheduled to take place on December 6.

Other notable candidates included Fernando Martorell Sobero with 13.611% and Stephen Ugarte Dávila with 8.773%. Legal experts noted that while Ruiz received more votes than the winner of previous regional elections, a lower number of total voters and fewer blank or null votes contributed to his inability to avoid the runoff.
