Tacoma Humane Society caring for 500 cats after recent seizure
The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is currently caring for over 500 cats following the recent seizure of 101 cats from a local home. The seized animals were found in poor condition, exhibiting symptoms such as hair loss, scabbing, flea infestations, and severe respiratory infections that required immediate medical intervention.
This intake follows other recent rescues, including 61 cats from a boat near Owen Beach and 20 cats from a vehicle in Tacoma. To manage the high population, the shelter has established temporary housing using pop-up kennels. The cats will undergo wellness exams, parasite treatments, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries before being cleared for adoption.
The organization is urgently seeking foster volunteers living within Pierce County or within 25 miles of the shelter. The Humane Society provides all necessary supplies for fosters, including food, medical care, and bedding. Additionally, the shelter is requesting donations of towels, blankets, paper towels, and newspaper to assist with animal care.
