Tacoma's Cheney Stadium hosts Mass for Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Approximately 3,000 Catholics gathered at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The event featured a procession of cultural communities from the Archdiocese of Seattle and was led by Seattle Archbishop Paul D. Etienne, auxiliary Bishop Frank Schuster, and approximately 30 other priests and deacons.

The liturgy included readings and prayers in multiple languages, such as Vietnamese, Spanish, Polish, Samoan, and Swahili. During his homily, Archbishop Etienne emphasized the theme of human dignity, stating that the Assumption teaches that dignity has a face, a body, a name, a history, and a destiny. He encouraged the congregation to address contemporary global issues, including homelessness, war, violence, and polarization.
