Tacuarembó launches 11th Tomás de Mattos literary contest

The Tacuarembó Intendency has launched the 11th edition of the Tomás de Mattos literary contest, an initiative open to young people across Uruguay. The competition features two age categories: 14 to 18 years and 19 to 29 years, covering the genres of poetry and short stories or narratives.

Supported by the National Institute of Letters of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the contest offers prizes of $12,000 per category. Submissions are accepted until Monday, November 23. Participants from other departments may submit works via email, while residents of the Tacuarembó interior can deliver entries to local mayoral offices or youth directorate facilities.

A jury composed of six local writers and teachers will evaluate the submissions within 30 days of the closing date. Additionally, the Intendency's editorial seal is preparing a book to compile winning works from the previous ten editions.
