Tadashi Yokouchi sets Guinness World Record for oldest Macbeth
Japanese actor Tadashi Yokouchi has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest professional actor to play the role of Macbeth. The achievement was certified during a preview performance of ‘MACBETH 2026’ at the Mitsukoshi Theater on August 28.
At 85 years old, Yokouchi, who also serves as the director and script adapter for the production, received his official certificate on stage following the performance. The production is based on the work by William Shakespeare, using a translation by Yushi Odajima. This marks Yokouchi’s ninth Shakespearean production and is described as his final performance in the role of Macbeth.
During a press conference following the certification, Yokouchi expressed his gratitude and stated his intention to continue challenging himself, aiming to perform again at age 90. The production is scheduled to run at the Mitsukoshi Theater through September 2.
