Tadej Pogačar's Pogi Challenge raises €116k for Komenda flood relief
Slovenian Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar organized a three‑day charity event, the “Pogi Challenge”, in his hometown of Komenda after a severe June storm caused extensive flood damage. The event raised about €116 000 for reconstruction, of which €95 000 came from an American who bought Pogačar’s torn Milan‑San Remo jersey. Over 1 000 amateur cyclists from around the world tackled the 15‑km climb of Krvavec, with Pogačar starting seven minutes after the first group. German doctor‑amateur Frederik Niessen won the race, completing the ascent in 45 minutes 49 seconds, roughly four minutes ahead of Pogačar, who finished eighth. Pogačar said he “suffered” after a chaotic start and a crash at the bottom of the climb. He arrived in Komenda by helicopter with ski‑jumper Domen Prevc, thanked supporters, and said his recovery was his top priority. He will announce his decision on whether to race the Vuelta a España on Monday, 3 August, and is also focused on the upcoming World Championships in Canada.
