Tadej Pogačar ends 2026 season early and extends UAE Team Emirates contract
Professional cyclist Tadej Pogačar has announced the early end of his 2026 season and signed a contract extension with UAE Team Emirates through 2032.
The decision follows a severe crash during the eighth stage of the Vuelta a España, where Pogačar was leading the general classification. His injuries include a concussion, a displaced fracture of the left clavicle, and a stable C7 cervical fracture. Following surgery on his clavicle, the rider and his medical team determined that prioritizing recovery and rehabilitation is essential, meaning he will miss the World Championships in Canada, the European Championships, and Il Lombardia.
Despite the premature end to his season, Pogačar expressed satisfaction with his long-term commitment to the team, stating, “From the beginning, this team has felt like home.” Team management confirmed the extension, noting that Pogačar has been a central figure in the team’s development since joining in 2019. He is expected to return to competition in 2027.
