Tadej Pogačar ruled out of European Championships and Il Lombardia
Tadej Pogačar will not compete in the upcoming European Road Championships in Ljubljana or Il Lombardia, despite his desire to return to racing. UAE Team Emirates-XRG team principal Mauro Gianetti confirmed the decision, stating, “His desire to be there is completely understandable, but it is simply too soon. Health is the priority.”
The decision follows a severe crash during the Vuelta a España approximately one month ago, which resulted in a concussion, a displaced fracture of the left collarbone, and a stable fracture of the C7 cervical vertebra. While Pogačar reportedly sought medical clearance from his surgeon, Xavier Mir, to participate in the championships on home soil, his team has opted for a cautious approach to ensure a full recovery.
With Pogačar sidelined, the Slovenian national team will look to other riders, including Primož Roglič and rising talent Jakob Omrzel, to compete in the event. The team management intends for Pogačar to focus on his rehabilitation, with a potential return to competition targeted for the 2027 season.
