Tadej Pogacar seeks return to racing despite team opposition
Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar is seeking to return to competition following a serious crash during the Vuelta. Pogacar has expressed a strong desire to participate in the European Cycling Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, despite his team, UAE Team Emirates, advising him to prioritize a full recovery and wait until the 2027 season to return to racing.
Pogacar consulted with his surgeon, Xavier Mir, who confirmed there are no medical obstacles to him competing in the championship. While the rider aims to defend his national team, his team management remains opposed to an accelerated return.
Recent reports show Pogacar training in Monaco alongside professional cyclist Urska Zigart. If he does not compete in the upcoming European championships, his potential return to professional racing may be slated for the Tour Down Under in Australia in January.
