Tadej Pogacar's VO2 Max Estimated at 96 ml/kg/min; MyWhoosh Launches 'Train Like Pogacar' Workouts
Scientists reconstructed Tadej Pogacar’s VO2 max from his performances on four major climbs in the 2024 Tour de France, the 2025 Tour, and the 2025 Giro di Lombardia. Their model places his VO2 max between 94 and 98 ml/kg/min, with an average of 96, a level comparable to world‑record values and far above the typical 75‑85 ml/kg/min seen in professional cyclists and the 35‑40 ml/kg/min of recreational athletes. The method was validated by applying it to former Tour winner Chris Froome, whose known laboratory value of 84.4 ml/kg/min was closely reproduced.
The virtual cycling platform MyWhoosh, founded in Abu Dhabi, has introduced a free “Train Like Tadej” program. Developed with Pogacar’s coach Javier Sola and the performance staff of UAE Team Emirates, the program translates the rider’s training structure into 40‑60‑minute sessions for amateurs. It includes VO2‑max intervals, tempo blocks, sprints and other workouts, each scaled to a user’s own functional threshold power (FTP).
