Tadeo Bourbon awarded for photograph of Argentine protest

Argentine photographer Tadeo Bourbon has received international recognition for a photograph documenting social and political tension in Buenos Aires. The award-winning image captures a moment of high tension during a weekly protest by retirees held in front of the National Congress.

The photograph depicts priest Jorge ‘Chueco’ Romero, a community leader from Ciudad Oculta, caught in a physical struggle against a line of Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA) officers. The visual contrast highlights the priest in a white tunic and handmade bag against security forces equipped with tactical gear and acrylic shields. The dome of the National Congress is visible in the background, providing geographic context to the confrontation.
