Taebaek hosts festivals celebrating railway and mining heritage
Taebaek City is hosting a series of local festivals during the first weekend of September, highlighting the region's historical resources such as railways and coal mining.
The Hwangyeon ‘Gicha-hwatong’ Festival will take place from September 4 to 5 at Aurora Park and the Tongri 5-day Market. The event features railway-themed programs including rail bikes, switchback trains, and eco-friendly electric tour trains. Activities include a night view at the Aurora Park Tower, a local market, and community performances.
The Jangseong Tantan Village Festival will be held from September 5 to 6 in Jangseong-dong. Centered on the theme ‘Miner's Sweat, Village's Light,’ the festival reflects on the history of the coal industry and the transition toward a clean energy village. The program includes a parade, traditional music performances, coal mining culture experiences, and a night market.
