Taekwondo athletes compete at Swiss Open and Muju Grand Prix
In recent Taekwondo competitions, Alessandro Giovagnoli secured a gold medal at the 2nd Swiss Open Kyorugi 2026 in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Competing in the junior -78 kg category, Giovagnoli returned to official competition following a four-month hiatus due to an eye injury. He defeated Germany’s Marius Henri Wolf in the semifinals and Alessio Caspari in the final to claim his first junior gold in a ranking-valid Open competition. This victory earned him 20 points, moving him from tenth to eighth in the European rankings.
Meanwhile, at the Muju Grand Prix in South Korea, Italian athlete Mattia Molin competed in the heavyweight (+80 kg) category. After a comeback victory against Poland’s Szymon Piatkowsky in his opening match, Molin was defeated in the round of sixteen by Greece’s Vasileios Tholiotis. Molin finished in ninth place, earning 9.07 ranking points toward Olympic qualification.
