Tafí del Valle competes for UN Tourism Best Rural Destination award

Tafí del Valle, a tourist village in Tucumán, Argentina, is competing to be named one of the Best Tourism Villages 2026 by UN Tourism. The program recognizes rural destinations that preserve cultural and natural assets while promoting community values and sustainable lifestyles.

Following a record-breaking call for entries in Argentina that included 56 localities from 19 provinces, Tafí del Valle is now among only eight destinations remaining in the competition. A technical team from the National Secretariat of Tourism, Environment, and Sports (Sectur) is evaluating the candidate based on nine thematic axes, including sustainability, community development, and the preservation of local identity.

A formal evaluation ceremony was held at the Estancia Jesuítica de Las Carreras, where the official UN Tourism nomination certificate was presented. The event included local authorities, representatives from the Tucumán Tourism Entity (ETT), and members of the private sector.
