Tafí Viejo municipality to challenge privatization of railway workshops

The Municipality of Tafí Viejo is preparing a legal challenge before Federal Justice to prevent the inclusion of the historic Railway Workshops (Talleres Ferroviarios) in the privatization process of Belgrano Cargas y Logística.

The conflict stems from Resolution 1761/2026 issued by the National Ministry of Economy, which incorporated railway sectors into a reorganization and privatization scheme. The municipality is concerned about the future of the 23-hectare site, which holds significant industrial history for the city.

Municipal prosecutor Víctor Schedan noted that while there are records of a land donation to the Province during the 1990s under former Governor Ramón Ortega, the formal transfer of the property was never completed. The local City Council unanimously approved Ordinance 022/2026 to support administrative and judicial actions to clarify land ownership and defend the site's interests.
