Tagrisso shows 79% 8-year survival rate in EGFR-mutated lung cancer study

AstraZeneca has released long-term survival data from its ADAURA Phase 3 clinical trial, presented at the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2026). The study evaluated Tagrisso (osimertinib) as an adjuvant therapy for patients with EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following tumor resection.

In the overall patient group (stages 1B-3A), the 8-year overall survival rate for those receiving Tagrisso was 79%, compared to 64% in the placebo group. This represents a 48% reduction in the risk of death. For patients in stages 2-3A, the 8-year survival rate was 74% versus 58% for the placebo group, with a 47% reduction in death risk.

This analysis marks the longest follow-up period for a global Phase 3 study evaluating adjuvant therapy for EGFR-mutated NSCLC. The safety profile remained consistent with previously established data, with no new safety concerns identified. Roy S. Herbst of the Dartmouth Cancer Center emphasized the importance of early EGFR testing at the time of diagnosis to ensure patients receive optimal treatment timing.
