Taguacenter workers demand urgent infrastructure and accessibility improvements
Workers at Taguacenter, a major commercial hub in Taguatinga, Distrito Federal, are demanding urgent infrastructure improvements to address safety and accessibility concerns. Key issues reported include broken sidewalks that pose fall risks to children and the elderly, a lack of parking spaces, insufficient pedestrian crossings, and waste accumulation causing sewage blockages.
A urban requalification and mobility project designed by the Secretariat of Urban Development and Housing (Seduh) was published in the Official Gazette on December 31, 2024. Although the plan—which includes new sidewalks for pedestrians and cyclists, green areas, a central plaza, and increased parking—has been approved by the GDF and forwarded to the Secretariat of Works and Infrastructure, construction has not yet begun.
Local employees have expressed skepticism regarding the project's implementation, with some describing the plans as ‘empty promises’ and fearing the delays may be politically motivated. Workers noted that the current state of the walkways, including loose stones, creates significant hazards for those navigating the area.
