TAGV theater in Coimbra to premiere immigrant-led play ‘Voz Comum’

The Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente (TAGV) in Coimbra will premiere a new theatrical production titled ‘Voz Comum’ on October 5. Created by the collective Estrutura Baldia, the performance features 11 participants representing seven different nationalities: Iran, Israel, the United States, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, and Italy.

The play explores themes of love and shared memories through the use of the Portuguese language, which the performers practice on stage. The project is a collaboration between Estrutura Baldia and the Centro Porta Amiga of AMI, an organization that has provided Portuguese language classes to foreigners since 2022. The production aims to demonstrate the ability to find a common voice and live together despite differences in origin or language.
