Tahar Rahim supports student protests and discusses new film role
Actor Tahar Rahim has expressed his support for high school students currently protesting against student precariousness and for improved educational conditions. During an appearance on the program Quotidien, Rahim stated he is “de tout cœur avec eux” (with them with all my heart), noting that their struggle is also a fight for the future of all children.
Rahim shared that his support is rooted in his own past experiences with financial hardship during his studies at the University of Montpellier. He noted that student poverty appears to be increasing, recalling seeing long queues for food distributions in Paris during his own student years.
In addition to discussing social issues, Rahim spoke about his professional journey and his upcoming role as Inspector Javert in Fred Cavayé’s adaptation of “Les Misérables,” scheduled for release on October 14, 2026. He also credited his partner, Leïla Bekhti, for encouraging him to persevere through difficult periods in his career, specifically during his preparation for his role as Charles Aznavour.
