Tahir Hussain sentenced to life for 2020 Delhi riots killing of IB officer Ankit Sharma FAST-MOVING
On 31 July 2026 the Karkardooma Court in Delhi sentenced former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain and four co‑accused—Nazim, Kasim, Javed and Anas—to life imprisonment for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the February 2020 North‑East Delhi riots. The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh, rejected the Delhi Police’s demand for the death penalty, stating that the prosecution had not proved the defendants were beyond reformation.
The victim, a 26‑year‑old IB officer, was abducted, assaulted and killed; his body was dragged to a drain in the Chand Bagh area and dumped. A post‑mortem reported 51 injuries, including 18 inflicted with sharp‑edged weapons. Six other accused were acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence. The verdict concludes a six‑year trial that began after a FIR was filed by Sharma’s father, Ravinder Kumar, following the officer’s disappearance on 25 February 2020.
