Tahiti Pro surfing faces extreme conditions as competitors battle massive waves
The Outerknown Tahiti Pro, part of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, has faced extreme and dangerous conditions at Teahupo'o. Due to massive 10-12ft waves and heavy winds, competition has been difficult, with some surfers describing the event as a "survival competition" rather than just a contest.
In recent Round 2 action, Japan's Connor O'Leary advanced to Round 3 after a low-scoring victory against Filipe Toledo. Seth Moniz also secured his place in Round 3 by defeating Yago Dora with a total score of 15.97. Barron Mamiya also progressed following a win over Marco Mignot.
Upcoming high-profile heats include Kanoa Igarashi against Alejo Muniz, and Gabriel Medina against Kelly Slater. Forecasts suggest wind conditions will remain a significant factor in determining how the remaining heats proceed.
