Tahmima Anam’s novel Good Books to be adapted for TV
Tahmima Anam’s upcoming novel, Good Books, is being developed into a television series. The project is a collaboration between Pacesetter Productions and Kudos, with the screenplay being co-written by Anam and Emmy-nominated writer Alison Brown, known for her work on Emily in Paris, Younger, and Upload.
Set within the publishing industry, the story follows Raya Chatterji, a New York bookseller whose life changes after meeting London literary agent Prue McNeill. The narrative explores themes of career shifts, returning to one's birthplace, and family secrets. Publishers have described the work as a blend of The Devil Wears Prada and Yellowface, focusing on the mechanics of book production, imposter syndrome, and mother-daughter relationships.
The novel was officially announced at the Edinburgh Book Festival. UK publisher Canongate has secured the rights for publication, which is slated for 2028, while Scribner will handle North American rights. Anam is a highly acclaimed author, recognized for her Bengal trilogy and recipient of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the O. Henry Award.
