Tahmoor miners to receive first paychecks after months of delay
Around 100 workers at the Tahmoor coal mine in New South Wales are set to receive their first paychecks in months as the mine transitions to new ownership by GM3. The workers will return to work after completing medical assessments and refresher training, with wages expected to start next month.
Union representative Andy Davey of the Mining and Energy Union welcomed the development, noting that employees who took leave without pay are first in line for re‑employment and that GM3 is advertising roughly 200 new positions at the site. The change follows a wave of redundancies earlier in the year, and the union sees the new owner as a cooperative employer.
GM3, which also operates the Appin and Dendrobium mines, has recently received environmental awards at Dendrobium, further signalling its growing role in the Illawarra mining sector.
