Tahoe National Forest lifts fire restrictions and announces prescribed burn
Tahoe National Forest officials have terminated fire restrictions effective October 27, 2026, due to improved fuel moisture and predicted weather conditions. The lifting of these restrictions applies specifically to national forest lands managed by the Tahoe National Forest.
Additionally, the forest plans to conduct a 185-acre prescribed underburn near Madrone Springs Road, close to Nevada City, California. Scheduled to begin October 28 and run through November 1, 2026, the operation aims to reduce fire hazards, enhance wildlife habitats, and reintroduce fire into the ecosystem. Smoke from the burn may be visible from Highway 20, Madrone Springs Road, Washington Ridge, and the greater Nevada City area.
