Taiat Dansa to perform Lorca adaptation in Castelló

The Teatre Principal in Castelló will host ‘Las hijas de Bernarda’ on Sunday, October 25, at 19:00. The performance is a contemporary dance reinterpretation of Federico García Lorca’s classic play, ‘La casa de Bernarda Alba’, by the Valencian company Taiat Dansa.

The production, part of the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) programming, shifts the focus to the five sisters from the original work. While the character of Bernarda Alba remains central to the narrative, she is portrayed as an invisible presence that dictates the movements and relationships of the dancers. Through choreography, the piece explores themes of repression, power dynamics, and the tension between social tradition and the desire for freedom.

Choreographed by Meritxell Barberá and Inma García, the performance features dancers Lara Misó, Julia Cambra, Irene de la Rosa, Mariona Jaume, Eila Valls, Wilma Puentes, and Celia Sandoya. The production is a collaboration involving Les Arts, the Institut Valencià de Cultura, the Dansa València festival, and Mercat de les Flors.
