Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations held in Hong Kong and Taiwan
Various cultural celebrations are marking the Mid-Autumn Festival across East Asia. In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board is hosting the inaugural International Lantern Spectacular at Victoria Park from September 17 to 27. The event features a massive eight-meter banyan tree lantern installation created by Nanjing Qinhuai lantern artisans and a “World Lantern Boulevard” showcasing designs from 20 countries. Other local festivities include the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance and lantern displays at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Lee Tung Avenue.
In Taiwan, the 2026 Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Music Carnival commenced with a major event at the Ita Sha Pier. The opening performance, “Drum Shaking Mountains and Waters,” drew over 20,000 visitors and featured a combination of indigenous culture, percussion, and water-based pyrotechnics, including 24-inch underwater explosions. Additional autumn events at Sun Moon Lake include cultural seasons and symphonic fireworks concerts scheduled through November.
