Taichung City officials investigated in procurement leak case
The Taichung District Prosecutors Office has launched an investigation into an alleged information leak involving a 2020 service procurement project for a Model United Nations event organized by the Taichung City Government Secretariat.
On August 6, authorities conducted searches at the Secretariat and the residences of four individuals. Among those implicated are Yan Nei-lun, a counselor for the Taichung City Government, and Li Cheng-hsuan, a former spokesperson for the Taipei City Government who previously served as a secretary for Mayor Lu Shiow-yen.
Following questioning, prosecutors ordered Yan Nei-lun to be released on 150,000 TWD bail and Li Cheng-hsuan to be released on 300,000 TWD bail, with both facing travel restrictions. Other suspects and witnesses were released without detention.
The Taichung City Government expressed confusion regarding the timing of the investigation, noting that the case originated from internal complaints filed over five years ago, yet searches were only recently executed. The city stated it respects the judicial process and hopes for a swift resolution to clear the names of those involved if they are innocent.
