Taichung City reports 100% pass rate for school lunch safety inspections
The Taichung City Food and Drug Safety Bureau announced that all 404 food items and ingredients sampled during inspections from February to June passed safety standards. The inspections, conducted in collaboration with the Education and Agriculture Bureaus, covered 187 instances involving school kitchens, meal catering factories, and ingredient suppliers.
To ensure student health, the city implements a two-stage sampling process. The first stage focuses on microorganisms and food additives in dishes and processed goods, while the second stage uses historical data to perform risk-based analysis on finished lunch products, processed items, and fresh pork.
Following the implementation of free nutritional lunches for disadvantaged students in Taichung starting August 31, the city has launched a new inspection project for the first semester of the academic year. This initiative includes strict monitoring of oil sources, brands, and batch numbers to prevent illegal activities such as the relabeling or mixing of contaminated oils. Results are made available to the public via the Taichung Food Safety GIS platform.
