Taichung City water project wins IASE Impact Innovation Award

The Taichung City Water Resources Bureau has won the first prize in the ‘2026 IASE Impact Innovation Award’ for its ‘One University Protects One River’ initiative. This program transforms waterfront spaces into environmental education sites through partnerships between the city government and local universities.

A key highlight is the Green River (Lüchuan) Xingda Section water environment improvement project. By removing campus walls at National Chung Hsing University and installing new seating, the project has integrated the campus with the riverbank to create public green spaces. Since its completion, the project has increased sewage treatment capacity by 12,000 tons daily, significantly reducing odors.

The initiative involves several institutions, including National Chung Hsing University, National Taichung University of Education, Feng Chia University, and Tunghai University. These collaborations focus on university social responsibility, involving students and faculty in environmental surveys, ecological monitoring, and community participation to ensure long-term sustainability and disaster resilience.
