Taichung completes Wufeng road widening and reports air quality improvements

Taichung City has completed the widening of Liufeng Road, a project costing approximately 150 million TWD. The construction has expanded the road from 5 meters to 12 meters in width and added pedestrian sidewalks and traffic safety facilities. This project completes a critical link in the Wufeng District transportation network, connecting the Wufeng Industrial Park, Asia University, and Asia University Hospital to improve commuting and medical access.

In parallel, the Taichung Environmental Protection Bureau is reporting progress on its ‘Blue Sky and White Clouds Action Plan.’ Now in its seventh year, the initiative utilizes smart technology, including over 1,000 air quality sensors and AI-driven monitoring, to manage pollution. The city has seen a decrease in PM2.5 concentrations, with recent data showing levels have dropped to 15.1 micrograms. The bureau is also employing AI for vehicle license plate recognition to monitor mobile pollution sources and using drones for detecting open burning.
