Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival celebrates 15th anniversary

The Taichung City Government held an opening event for the 2026 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival in Xinshe District. This year’s celebration marks the 15th anniversary of the event and features a “Dessert Kingdom” theme.

In a first for the festival, the city has partnered with Japan’s Sanrio to feature seven popular characters, including Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Cinnamoroll, across dedicated floral zones. The exhibition covers 2 hectares and includes approximately 110,000 flowers. A central 19-meter-tall main flower carpet, titled “Honey Encounter,” depicts a dessert castle, blending floral art with Taichung’s local pastry culture.

The festival aims to promote sustainability through community involvement, featuring floral works created by local senior centers and kindergartens using recycled materials. To facilitate tourism, the city has arranged five free shuttle bus routes connecting the site to high-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, and the metro system. The event is scheduled to run for 23 days.
