Taichung launches second wave of consumer vouchers to boost local economy
The Taichung City Government Economic Development Bureau has launched the second phase of its consumer voucher program, distributing 350,000 vouchers across 107 locations throughout the city from October 30 to November 1. The initiative allows residents to exchange 100 TWD in cash for a 200 TWD voucher, effectively doubling their purchasing power for local goods.
On the first day of distribution, high demand led to long queues at various markets, with many locations exhausting their supplies within thirty minutes. The program aims to stimulate spending in traditional markets, night markets, and commercial districts to support the local grassroots economy. Vendors reported increased foot traffic and sales compared to typical days.
To manage the crowds, the city implemented dual-window exchange mechanisms at larger sites such as Jianguo Market and Fengyuan First Market. The vouchers are valid until November 5 and must be used at designated locations. The Economic Development Bureau noted that the success of this model has drawn interest from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and other municipalities.
