Taichung leads quality of life favorability in Taiwan's six municipalities

A report by the TPOC Taiwan Issue Research Center on the quality of life in Taiwan's six special municipalities for the first half of 2026 reveals distinct trends in public sentiment and discussion volume.

Kaohsiung and Taipei led in total discussion volume, with 98,000 and 80,000 mentions respectively. However, both cities experienced high levels of negative sentiment—6.34% for Kaohsiung and 5.45% for Taipei—driven by controversies involving public cultural venues, facility hygiene, and service issues.

In contrast, Taichung City emerged as the leader in public favorability (P/N value) despite ranking fourth in total discussion volume (approximately 48,000 mentions). The report attributes Taichung's high satisfaction to successful urban developments and high-quality facility operations, such as the Taichung Public Library and the 'Green Beauty Map' (Lü Mei Tu) project. Ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Taichung Dome, the Taichung International Exhibition Center, and the MRT Blue Line, have also contributed to positive public expectations for the city's future development.
