Taichung Meicun Comprehensive Service Park opens as Taiwan-US landmark

The Taichung Meicun Comprehensive Service Park has officially opened in Taiwan, marking the revitalization of a site that served as a US military club and logistics reception center established in 1962.

The project, which cost over 800 million TWD, follows years of debate regarding the preservation of the site's historical significance. The development utilizes a “partial preservation, new and old integration” approach, maintaining certain original walls and over 80 trees while incorporating modern facilities.

AIT Director Aimee Chang attended the opening, describing the park as a “new landmark of Taiwan-US relations” that preserves the memory of US military presence and cultural exchange in the region. Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen noted that the park provides diverse public services, including the city's largest childcare center capable of accommodating 80 infants, a children's sports center, and facilities for women's empowerment and volunteer services.
