Taichung Shuinan International Exhibition Center phase two contract signed
The signing ceremony for the second phase of the Taichung Shuinan International Exhibition Center turnkey engineering project was held on the 14th. The project has a total budget exceeding 6 billion TWD.
Legislative Yuan Vice President Johnny Chiang attended the event, expressing his vision for the site to transform from its former identity as an airport into an international trade gateway for central Taiwan. He proposed a “front shop, back factory, and free port” model, which integrates the exhibition halls as the “front shop,” the local industrial clusters (including semiconductor, aerospace, and machine tool sectors) as the “back factory,” and the advantages of Taichung’s sea and air ports as the “free port.”
Chiang emphasized that the facility must be functional for the industry rather than just aesthetically pleasing, urging the design and construction teams to meet the practical needs of exhibitors. The project aims to drive the “exhibition economy Plus,” creating spillover effects for the hospitality, catering, and tourism sectors in Taichung and surrounding counties such as Changhua and Nantou.
