Taichung Transit Center officially opens in Taiwan
The Taichung Transit Center, described as the largest transportation hub in Taiwan, officially commenced operations on November 4. The facility, built at a cost of 2.1 billion TWD, integrates Taiwan Railways, national highway buses, city buses, taxis, cars, motorcycles, and YouBike services to create a comprehensive transit network.
Managed by the Taichung City Government, the center features two floors above ground and three floors below ground. It includes 12 large bus docking spaces serving 26 different bus routes. The facility is designed with a focus on separating pedestrian and vehicle traffic to enhance safety. Parking facilities include 506 car spaces and 1,469 motorcycle spaces.
The center incorporates smart technology, such as license plate recognition, real-time parking space detection via light indicators, and a QR code system that allows users to locate their vehicles and pay fees via mobile devices. To support local economic development, the parking area uses a color-coded navigation system linked to future metro lines. For the first month of operation, the city is offering discounted parking rates to encourage public use.
