Taichung Wenxin Rotary Club donates wheelchairs to Changhua facility

The Taichung Wenxin Rotary Club has donated 20 new wheelchairs to the Xi Yuan Home in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County, to address urgent equipment shortages. The facility, which provides 24-hour care for approximately 150 residents with moderate to severe mental and multiple disabilities, has faced significant challenges due to its coastal location.

Because the institution is situated near the coast, metal equipment such as wheelchairs frequently suffer from corrosion and aging caused by salt spray from the sea breeze. This environmental factor has increased the maintenance burden on the facility and accelerated the need for replacements.

According to Vice Director Li Ming-jun, the wheelchairs are essential for the daily mobility, rehabilitation, and medical transport of the residents, including 25 bedridden individuals and nearly 30 elderly residents. The donation aims to improve the safety and stability of movement for residents, many of whom belong to low-income households and cannot afford expensive medical assistive devices.
