Taika Waititi faces poor reviews for Klara and the Sun and Star Wars hiatus

Director Taika Waititi is facing mixed results with his latest film, ‘Klara and the Sun’, an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s dystopian novel. Starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams, the film has debuted with a 27% critic score. Reviewers have criticized Waititi for prioritizing his signature humor over the profound themes of artificial intelligence and mortality found in the source material, with some calling the adaptation a ‘empty version’ of the book.

In addition to the critical reception of his new film, Waititi revealed that his long-anticipated Star Wars project has been put ‘on ice’. While Waititi and screenwriter Tony McNamara were previously set to collaborate on a Star Wars film, the director confirmed they are currently working on a different, undisclosed project instead.
